Classroom Technology
The Campus Media Center (CMC) provides classroom technology support
to the University of Washington, Bothell. In addition to permanent whiteboards and standard overhead projectors (for transparencies), all UW Bothell classrooms are equipped with
high-end technology systems to support the teaching and learning
process. The heart of each system is the ePodium--an electronic podium
controlling the classroom technology via a touch-screen panel. ePodium training is provided each quarter to interested UW Bothell faculty.
The primary goal of the CMC's classroom support mission is to
minimize classroom disruption associated with technology problems. To
that end, each ePodium at UW Bothell is equipped with a classroom telephone
to
provide direct access to CMC technical support. If problems occur, the
CMC promptly dispatches technical staff to the classroom. If required
equipment is not permanently housed in a classroom or meeting space,
portable equipment can be delivered. A minimum of 12 hours advanced
notice is required for this service. In addition, each classroom is
equipped with an Assisted Listening System (ALS) providing amplified
sound to individuals with hearing challenges. ALS headsets are
available for checkout from the CMC. Finally, the CMC provides a host
of circulating equipment available for checkout to students, faculty,
and staff working on course-related projects.

ePodium
Each classroom at UW Bothell is equipped with an ePodium--an electronic
podium housing the primary classroom technology. Supported by the
Campus Media Center (CMC), each ePodium
includes an on-board computer, an
interface for external computers (laptops), as well as video and audio
playback devices (VHS, DVD and CD). An intuitive touch-screen panel controls the entire system and links all devices to the projection and
audio playback equipment. Connections are also available for standard
and wireless microphones, document cameras and other peripheral
equipment should they be required. A button on each ePodium adjusts
the unit to an appropriate height. In addition, the ePodia are
equipped with a telephone to summon immediate technical
support from the CMC should a problem arise. UW Bothell faculty members are asked to attend a brief training
session. UW Bothell staff members requiring ePodia for presentations are welcome
to attend training sessions. To track usage, however, staff must
schedule an ePodium unlock at least 12-hours in advance of the
event.
ePodium Training (for faculty & staff)
In this session open to UW Bothell faculty and staff, participants are walked through the basics of the classroom ePodium and technology systems. Sessions are offered the week prior to each quarter, as well as the first week of every quarter. Staff members are asked to schedule ePodium usage at least 12 hours prior to the event. Please note that all of the ePodia in UWB have modified to create a keyless entry system; although keys for ePodia in UWB will no longer be necessary, training is still required prior to use of the ePodia. Students requiring ePodium technology for in-class presentations must coordinate access through their instructor.

ePodium Reference Manual
The Campus Media Center staff has created the ePodium Reference Manual for UW Bothell faculty and staff to utilize after completing ePodium Training. The manual contains a section for each major system function denoted by the tabs at the top of the touch-screen panel. Each section includes a screen shot from the associated page of the touch-screen panel, a brief description of the function, and the action necessary to achieve it. Important tips, hints, and a notes area are also included. A troubleshooting section exists at the end of the document. The "ePodium Reference Manual" is distributed to UW Bothell faculty and staff at ePodium training sessions. Additional copies are available at the CMC and a PDF version is available online by clicking here.
To view a PDF document, you must have the free Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader installed on your computer. To download Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader, please visit the Adobe web site at: http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html.
Classroom Telephone
The major goal of the Campus Media Center's classroom support
mission is to minimize classroom disruption associated with
technology at UW Bothell. To that end, each UW Bothell ePodium is equipped with a telephone to provide direct access to CMC technical support should a
problem arise. For convenience, the CMC telephone number is
prominently displayed along the bottom of the ePodium touch-screen
panel (2-5312). If a problem occurs, the CMC promptly dispatches
technical staff.
Portable Equipment
Equipment not permanently housed in a UW Bothell classroom, seminar room, or
group study room can be provided by the CMC. Once a submitted request has been approved, the CMC will deliver and set-up
portable equipment (see list below). Reservations for portable
equipment can be placed via the Request Equipment! page on the CMC website
or by email or phone (425.352.5312). The CMC also has two group study rooms equipped with media equipment which can be reserved by both UW Bothell and Cascadia Community College patrons. A minimum of 12 hours advanced
